SCOUT® was designed to make the day of breast cancer surgery easier for women and more efficient for healthcare providers.
Smart Design, Compassionate Solution
Cianna Medical believes women deserve better when it comes to breast cancer care. This is why we developed the SCOUT wire-free radar localization system. SCOUT uses radar for a zero-radiation and wire-free solution designed to aid surgeons in locating target tissue during a lumpectomy to ±1mm of accuracy.
Traditionally, lumpectomy procedures involve wire localization— inserting a wire into the breast on the day of surgery. For many women, this leads to discomfort, increased anxiety, and reduced satisfaction. There is also a risk that the wire could move resulting in re-excisions and a less than pleasing cosmetic result.
Radar has been used for decades when precision is vital to success. Cianna Medical is the first to adapt this technology for use in human tissue. Instead of wires, a small reflector the size of a grain of rice is placed into the breast prior to the day of surgery. The SCOUT system detects the reflector using its unique radar signal.
Using SCOUT, surgeons can precisely target the affected tissue to pinpoint its location within 1mm, which can mean more successful surgeries, optimized breast conservation strategies, and enhanced outcomes for women.
