Peer-Reviewed SAVI Research Published in Brachytherapy Device Expands Candidates for Single-Entry APBI
The second peer-reviewed, published article on SAVI clinical data appears in the October-December 2009 issue of Brachytherapy. To date, the study represents the most complete review of early clinical experience with SAVI. The study followed 30 patients treated with the SAVI applicator at the University of California, San Diego with a median follow-up of 12 months. Among the key findings:
- Outstanding dose modulation
- Good-to-excellent cosmesis for all patients
- No symptomatic persistent seroma or local recurrences
- Nearly half of the patients were ineligible for other forms of brachytherapy due to skin spacing or breast size.
In addition, the article provides helpful information for any physician integrating SAVI into his/her practice, including: detailed descriptions of patient selection criteria, shortcomings of other treatment modalities and QA standards.
